Antiques Roadshow comes to Chenies
Chenies was a busy place on July 3rd when the BBC Antiques Roadshow team set up camp at the Manor to filmits 37th series. Locals headed there in their dozens, many laden with objects they hoped would turn into priceless treasures, others just to be part of the TV experience.

IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT POLLUTION OF THE RIVER CHESS
A public meeting is being held at Chesham Town Hall (HP5 1DS) on Friday 30th May at 7pm to address the ongoing sewage pollution of the River Chess from Chesham Sewage Treatment Works. As you may be aware the treatment works has been continuously discharging sewage into the river for over three months.
Thames Water will be present to explain what has been causing the sewage discharges at the Chesham Sewage Treatment Works and what is planned for the plant in the future.
The agenda for the meeting is as follows:
1 Explanation as to what is causing the discharges
2 Estimate of the volume of discharge into the river this year
3 Current Status and when do we expect this to stop
4 What is going to be done to ensure this never happens again
5 How is the Chesham STW going to be modified to meet current and future demand
6 How is Thames Water going to compensate the people whose livelihoods and property have been damaged
We would like to encourage as many people as possible to attend this meeting. The Mark Stepham passed this to me: You may be aware that Thames water has been discharging sewage from Chesham Sewage Treatment Works into the river Chess for several months. The river is under severe stress - fly monitoring is identifying a declining population and dead flies in samples. There is salmonella and E.coli in the river nd the watercress beds have had to close down. Some school projects to release trout have been cancelled or moved away.. Thames has justified this as storm discharge.
The River Chess Association (RCA) has tried to work with Thames but it is a story of good words and no action - they seem to have too few people which is, I think, cost cutting to maximise profit. The environment Agency seems to agree this is now illegal discharge and the cause is ingress of groundwater to their network which can only be fixed by significant investment (of which there is little sign). Clearly this is of real concern to us as Chenies residents, so attending the meeting might be a good idea.
